:bulletyellow: History:
Charles was born an identical twin into a family that already had a hand in hunting the supernatural. He and his brother, Chauncy, were the only two at the time to be born, in their family, with blond hair, due to their father's Melanesian ancestry. The hunting legacy also came from his father's side, though his mother joined in the hunt in an effort to keep her two boys safe. As Charles grew older, he eagerly learned the tricks of the trade from his father. His twin brother had no real interest in it, himself. He sought to live a life of “normalcy” instead, in the hope that nothing would get up to bothering him anyway. Their parents had no qualm with this and were quite understanding, though they did occasionally inquire as to whether everything was all right as far as normalcy was concerned. Charles was upset about the whole situation, though, and insisted his brother take at least some precautions. “You never know what will happen,” was how almost every call between the two of them ended.

Surprisingly, it was nothing supernatural that took their parents. Their father had passed due to illness and their mother had died some years earlier in a car accident. Even on his death bed, though, Charles' father was still unsure of whether it was just an accident. He'd spent the remainder of his days looking into it. Charles did not continue the research himself, however. Up until then, he'd stayed in his hometown and had taken up work as a contractor. The one thing he was happy about, though, was inheriting the family van. His father had taught him a little bit on how to take care of it. Since he was little, he had admired it. In contrast, his brother had moved farther south, to Atlanta, Georgia, go to college and do an internship at a local hospital. Charles decided to travel and do “jobs” in other states after their father's passing, to continue the legacy.

It was during these travels that he met a woman named Elaine. Much to his own surprise, he found they hit it off quite well. They eventually married and had one son. Charles ha d told Elaine early on about his hunts—which was prompted by her suspicions of cheating. She of course found it hard to believe at first, but then thought she could handle it. After a while though, she'd reached her limit. The woman left Charles and his son when the boy, who they'd named Alex, was about three years old. The man was distraught now, not only at losing his wife but also at the prospect of having to drag his beloved son along with him during hunts. He made the decision then to plead for his brother's assistance. After fretting over it for a few weeks, Chauncy decided to take in his nephew. The arrangement worked—for a few years.

Charles was up in the northern states hunting a pair of vetala. He'd managed to kill one, but the other vetala bargained with him in exchange for escaping with her life. She swore she would drain animals instead of humans for sustenance. He'd heard through the grapevine about other creatures that drank blood abstaining, but he hadn't seen it in action. The man decided he'd give the vetala the benefit of the doubt—especially since she claimed she'd give up without resistance if he caught her breaking that promise. He stayed a little longer in that town to see if the other vetala would make a move, but it had appeared she'd either skipped town or kept her promise or both. Charles decided to give up on her then and move on to the job in the next town. Little did he know how this decision would come back to haunt him.

Now Charles normally checked the paper that was local to his brother's native county in Atlanta to make sure what remained of his family was safe. Much to his dismay, it was already too late and what he'd feared might happen had already occurred. In the paper, he found an article about a dead man and child fitting his brother and son's descriptions. They'd both seemed to have been drained of blood. Needless to say, Charles headed immediately there to locate and kill whatever had done this. It turned out to be that vetala that he'd let escape earlier on. The one thing he had not been aware of was the strong pack mentality of the vetala, which ultimately led to his error. The creature had played him for a fool just so that it might live to exact revenge. He was lucky enough to catch it again, alone, as it had let its guard down thinking it'd killed Charles himself and not his ill-prepared twin brother. This incident continues to rack him with guilt even to present-day.

Farther down the line, he found himself charged with the care of a girl, Alice, who was the daughter of a pair of hunters he'd become friends with after a few years. He was quite confused as to why the girl appeared on his doorstep—especially since these fellow hunters knew about his sensitivity with his past. He figured it had to be something serious. Charles found out that her stay was only temporary, as she'd informed him her parents told her that they'd be back to get her. The problem was that they didn't say when. He was glad to know she at least knew a little about hunting so she wouldn't be dead weight. Thus began the adventures of Charles and Alice on the road to hunt of the supernatural.

:bulletyellow: Etc.:
  • He loathes entirely when people ask him if or assume his hair is dyed.

  • He is easily pacified with snacks.

  • He gets seasick.

  • He wears whatever he finds comfortable and doesn't keep to any particular style.

  • The cheesesteak is near and dear to his heart, and he believes it should be made in a very specific way or it isn't a cheesesteak at all.

  • He keeps a drawing by his son in the glove compartment of his car.

:bulletyellow: RP Snippet:
Prompt 3: You've been tracking a nest of Vampires for a while now, only to find that they aren't attacking humans. How do you approach the situation?
Charles cautiously entered the building he'd tracked the vampire nest to. From the outside, it seemed like a house forgotten by time and the lonely back road that was still a good ways from it. It had not been an easy task to locate the nest—they seemed more wily than the average vamps. Now past the threshold of the dilapidated building, he hugged the wall so as not to make a peep. The house had other plans. His foot landed on a creaky plank and he soon found himself faced with a member of the nest in the dim light of the foyer.
The shadowed figure put up its hands as if to signal immediate surrender. “Before you do anything rash, you should know we aren't the ones hunting those humans,” the figure spoke up, referring to the string of deaths that had lead Charles to that nest.
With a sharp inhalation, Charles narrowed his eyes as he tightly grasped his knife dipped in dead man's blood. “I'm not making the same mistake again.”
